Originally from Rochester, New York, Richard Nickel received a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from State University College at Buffalo, New York. He received a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics in 2000 at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Nickel is an Associate Professor of Art at Old Dominion University, where he is the Art Education Program Director and the Ceramics Program Director. He has been published in several Lark books on ceramics and awarded several grants on research in Education and Ceramics, including a Faculty Innovator Grant, and an ODU Summer Research Fellowship.
