Program Description
Know your audience! Understanding the facets of a classroom’s personality is key to connecting to the students and the lesson. Art and Song can tell you a lot about your students and it can be a great segue into your lesson plan or theme for any time of year. YAV Teaching Artists applied this practice to groups of students in classrooms with high military child attendance and found that art and music offered opportunities to identify leaders, delegators, collaborators, while simultaneously creating a sense of community and connectivity within the classroom. YAV Teaching Artists will share observations and strategies learned from the unique military-child pilot program and how you can apply those strategies to engage your unique population and harness their strengths to enhancing community and collaborative learning in your classroom.
